All About Cranage
Cranage is situated in rural Cheshire and although much of its area comprises farmland, it is close to the M6 at J18. Manchester International Airport is about 45 minutes’ drive and there is a rail link from nearby Holmes Chapel to the airport, to Manchester and to Crewe main line station, there is also a station in Goostrey.
There are two shops in Cranage, Lowe’s farm shop and, Goostrey Home & Leisure with Tea room, and a 9 hole golf course. Within 2 miles is the village of Holmes Chapel with more shops, post office, banks, pubs, primary and secondary schools, a veterinary surgery and an excellent health centre. The village of Goostrey, also within 2 miles, has two pubs, some small shops and a part time post office. Should you be unfortunate enough to require A&E, departments can be found in Macclesfield or Leighton (Crewe).
The Village Hall, a lovely old building, is well used by the Playgroup, the Art club and the Bridge club with regular whist drives and specialist events such as wine tasting evenings, which are often over-subscribed.
The area is a ramblers’ delight with many public footpaths through pretty countryside.
The Old Vicarage Hotel, originally built in the 17th century, provided accommodation for visitors and travellers. Currently it serves food and drink to its customers. The Swan Inn, an earlier source of accommodation, changed purpose many years ago and is now Swan Farm. DeVere Cranage Estate offers accommodation and there are several B&Bs in the area. Theaters and cinemas can be found in a number of surrounding towns and of course in Manchester.
